Musical Theater Camp

Hudson River Performing Arts Center's summer camps foster confidence, communication skills and love of the arts that will be invaluable throughout the campers lives. Summer '12 offers 3 one-week camp sessions. Camp Ballet to Broadway '12 sessions will follow specific musical themes with daily instruction in acting, voice and dance. Campers will learn and rehearse dialogue through scene study and character development, as well as musical production numbers. Each camp session will culminate in a presentation for friends and family.

Musical Theater Camp: Session I ages 13-18
Musical Theater Camp Session I offers Musical Rock & Roll as the theme for this week of musical theatre experiences in acting, vocal techniques and dance techniques. Campers 13-18 will sing, dance and explore characters while celebrating and honoring each student's talent, individuality and cultural uniqueness. Throughout the week, campers will prepare musical numbers leading up to an in-studio performance for friends and family on the final day of the camp.
 

Musical Theater Camp: Session II ages 6-13
Musical Rock & Roll is the theme for Musical Theater Camp Session II. Through instruction in dance, voice, character development and scene study, campers will explore the characters of this exciting musical theme through songs and dances from Grease and High School Musical. Camp will end with an in-studio presentation for friends and family that will be presented on the final day.
 


 

Petite Musical Theater Camp: Session III ages 4-6
Petite Camp Ballet to Broadway will offer the campers classes in creative dance, creative theatre and singing. These creative elements are integrated though the camp's musical theme, Disney Story Book. Each day the campers will use their imagination to explore what it might be like to be some of their favorite characters. The campers will end their week by telling their stories through dance, theatre and song. An in-studio presentation for friends and family will be held on the last day of camp.

Acting Workshop
In this workshop we will explore the craft of acting in a class formatted to suit actors of varying levels of experience through scene work. Material will be suited to individual students and will be rehearsed and explored beat by beat, focusing on actor coaching.
 

Musical Theatre Workshop
This workshop will focus on the actor's vocal, physical and emotional performance of musical theatre songs and scenes. Integration of the voice with the whole body will be the focus of this class. Techniques include the study and practice of improvisational movement, projection and resonance, breath control, vocal variety and articulation.
 

Musical Theatre Dance Workshop
Students will study various styles of character dance. The choreography will include Broadway and Movie Musicals.

 

Hip Hop Camps

We are offering 2 Hip Hop Camps taught by Ashley Hill. Dancers will take Hip Hop classes geared towards learning cutting edge choreography preparing routines to be featured in an in-house performance and dance video shot by HRPAC staff.

Junior Ballet Intensive
Our Junior Ballet Intensive focuses on the serious Level III to Intermediate dancer and is intended to improve the fundamentals of the classical ballet technique. Supplementing the ballet curriculum with additional activities will enhance and compliment the experience. These will include Modern Dance and Yoga. All of these areas of study will challenge and stimulate the dance to develop a flexibility of style that is important in today's dance world.
 

Senior  Ballet Intensive
Our Senior Ballet Intensive focuses on the serious intermediate and advanced dancers and is meant to excel the dancers' artistry and technical ability. Daily technique classes are a blending of the Vaganova, Cecchetti, and Royal Academy methods. The technique classes are intensified with video analysis and body concepts and classes in Pointe, Variations, Modern, Pilates, and Yoga will be offered throughout the week. Instruction is highly individualized and each dancer is encouraged to keep a daily log of progress and goals. Students will develop a self-confidence and style in their dancing, knowing that their ballet technique is sound. A chosen classic is discussed, studied, and rehearsed at length.
